nexBox-Dual

Two serial ports, one nexBox

nexBox-Dual is the two serial port version of nexBox. It avoids deploying two enclosures when an autorefractor and a lensmeter share the same workstation, for example at reception. It can also directly connect two instruments from different brands that do not communicate natively, such as a NIDEK autorefractor and a Topcon refractor, while keeping the same network integration base as nexBox.

5 key scenarios

Two serial ports, fewer boxes.

nexBox-Dual keeps the nexBox approach and adds two independent serial ports. One enclosure can connect two instruments to the network or bridge devices that do not communicate natively.

Two instruments, one workstation

« Connect the reception autorefractor and lensmeter with a single network box. »

The two serial ports host two instruments that sit close to each other. nexBox-Dual then sends their flows to the EHR, HIS, PACS, or an API without adding a second nexBox to the workstation.

Why nexBox-Dual?

Two flows in the same box.

When two instruments share one workstation, stacking gateways adds cabling, power supplies, and installation points. nexBox-Dual gathers both serial links in one enclosure.

Two serial ports

Connect two serial instruments to the same device instead of deploying two nexBox units side by side.

Compact workstations

An autorefractor and a lensmeter at reception can share the same network connection.

Direct multi-brand link

Make instruments from different brands communicate when they are not natively compatible.

Same nexBox base

Protocols, integration model, and 24/7 operation stay aligned with nexBox.

Specifications

Same nexBox. Wider enclosure.

The technical platform remains nexBox. The width grows to 96.6 mm to fit both serial ports.

Typical use cases

Where does Dual save a box?

  • Autorefractor and lensmeter at reception
  • Two nearby serial instruments on the same workstation
  • Direct NIDEK autorefractor to Topcon refractor link
  • Eye Care Card or Nexio NFC workflows with two local serial instruments
  • Compact modernization of a workstation already planned for nexBox
  • Fewer network cables and power supplies on a dense workstation
  • Multi-brand integrations with two local serial flows

What nexBox is not.

  • Not a measuring medical device. nexBox-Dual transports and translates data. It does not diagnose.
  • Both connected instruments must be validated against their protocol, firmware, and cabling.
  • A direct link between two instruments depends on supported protocols and the functions exposed by each manufacturer.
  • Complex orchestration architectures may still require nexRef or a dedicated integration project.
